Training for the EQE Pre-Examination
Every year in October/November, methodology courses are provided for candidates preparing for the Pre-Examination of the European Qualifying Examination (EQE) at Maastricht University (NL).

Passing the Pre-Exam is your ticket to participating in the EQE. In the Pre-Exam, you have to show that you have legal knowledge of the framework of European patent law and that you have sufficient experience in reading, interpreting and analyzing patent claims.
The Pre-Exam training programme is designed to increase the knowledge and skills of candidates who already have a basic understanding of European patent law, to the level required for passing the Exam. The training programme employs state of the art teaching methodologies enabling you to score an optimal amount of points at the Pre-Exam.
2-day Claim Analysis Methodology
The training involves a 2-day workshop. The aim of the course is to familiarize yourself with the methodology for tackling the claim-analysis part of the Pre-Exam and help you to build your confidence to pass the Pre-Exam.
1-day Legal Questions Methodology
The training involves a 1-day workshop. The training involves a practical methodology for to quickly and correctly apply your legal knowledge to a legal situation in each of the 10 multiple choice questions.
Both courses are offered in the historical centre of Maastricht.
To further deepen your knowledge and skills after each of the workshops, you will be given access to the Electronic Learning Environment of Maastricht University (Canvas) all the way to the date of the EQE. Via this portal, you will receive online instruction to further practice your skills. In addition, there are opportunities to interact online with fellow students and the teachers.
Main Exam Methodology courses
Every year in October/November, training courses are provided for candidates preparing for the Main Exam Papers of the European Qualifying Examination.
The EQE-training programme is designed to increase the knowledge and skills of candidates who already have a basic understanding of European patent law, to the level required for passing the Exam. The small-scale courses are designed using state of the art teaching methodologies enabling you to score an optimal amount of points at the EQE to pass the Exam.

The EQE-training is associated with the Advanced Master Intellectual Property Law and Knowledge Management (LL.M/MSc) given at Maastricht University.
The IPKM is accredited by the Examination Board of the European Patent Office, resulting in a six-month remission of the period of professional training for the European Qualifying Examination.
