The author Cees Mulder


Education and career

Cees Mulder, born in July 1954 in Tilburg (NL), studied Physics and Chemistry at Utrecht University, where he received his Masters degree in 1977. Subsequently, Cees worked as an officer of the Royal Netherlands Navy at the Physics Laboratory RVO/TNO in The Hague. After completing his PhD in Physics at Leiden University, Cees joined Philips Electronics in 1982, first as a researcher at the Philips Research Laboratory in Eindhoven, and subsequently at the Central Development Laboratories of Philips Lighting. In 1994, Cees joined the Philips Patent department as a patent attorney trainee. Cees qualified as a Dutch patent attorney in 1997 and as a European patent attorney in 1999.

In the period 2001-2009, Cees was one of the founding partners of the private patent attorney office DeltaPatents. Here Cees was not only able to continue his activities in the field of patents, but also to establish DeltaPatents as a leading institute for training patent professionals, in particular patent attorneys, for the European Qualifying Examination.

Expertise

Cees is a senior lecturer in many courses on the European Patent Convention, the Patent Cooperation Treaty, the Paris Convention and the Patent Law Treaty.
Teaching activities

Since 1999, Cees has been a tutor at the Centre d’Etudes Internationales de la Propriété Intellectuelle (CEIPI) at Strasbourg University.

Since 2005, Cees has been co-speaker at Formal Requirements of the European Patent System for Management Forum in London.

Cees is also a frequent co-speaker at seminars organised jointly by the Institute of Professional Representatives before the European Patent Office (epi) and the European Patent Office.



​Maastricht University

Since 2009, Cees Mulder has been lecturing European Patent Law at the Faculty of Law of Maastricht University. 


In 2017, Cees was appointed professor of "European Patent Law in a Global Context".​

​In 2011, he successfully defended a PhD thesis, entitled: "On the Alignment of the European Patent Convention and the Patent Cooperation Treaty with Requirements of the Patent Law Treaty".

​EQE Training

Since 2014, Cees Mulder together with a team of tutors provides methodology training courses for the EQE-Training for candidates at Maastricht University. In addition, Nyske Blokhuis, Natasja Duhayon and Cees Mulder provide training for the Pre-Examination of the EQE at Maastricht University.

Books

Since 2003, Cees has been the author of the book The Cross-Referenced Patent Cooperation Treaty (published yearly). 

Cees is co-author of the book Proceedings before the European Patent Office - A Practical Guide to Success in Opposition and Appeal, issued by Edward Elgar Publishing (2015).
