The author Cees Mulder


Education and career
Cees Mulder studied Physics and Chemistry at Utrecht University. After completing his PhD in Physics at Leiden University, Cees joined Philips Electronics in 1982, first as a researcher at the Philips Research Laboratory in Eindhoven, and subsequently at the Central Development Laboratories of Philips Lighting. In 1994, Cees joined the Philips Patent department as a patent attorney trainee. Cees qualified as a Dutch patent attorney in 1997 and as a European patent attorney in 1999.

In the period 2001-2009, Cees was one of the founding partners of the private patent attorney firm DeltaPatents. Here Cees was not only able to continue his activities in the field of patents, but also to establish DeltaPatents as a leading institute for training patent professionals, in particular patent attorneys, for the European Qualifying Examination.

Expertise
Cees is a senior lecturer in many courses on the European Patent Convention, the Patent Cooperation Treaty, the Paris Convention and the Patent Law Treaty.
Teaching activities
Since 1999, Cees has been a tutor at the Centre d’Etudes Internationales de la Propriété Intellectuelle (CEIPI) at Strasbourg University.

Cees is also a frequent speaker at seminars organised jointly by the Institute of Professional Representatives before the European Patent Office (epi) and the European Patent Office.

From 2005-2021, Cees was a speaker at Formal Requirements of the European Patent System for Management Forum in London.

​Maastricht University

From 2009-2021, Cees Mulder was a lecturer of European Patent Law at the Faculty of Law of Maastricht University.

In 2017, Cees was appointed professor of 
"European Patent Law in a Global Context".​

​In 2011, he successfully defended a PhD thesis, entitled: 
"On the Alignment of the European Patent Convention and the Patent Cooperation Treaty with Requirements of the Patent Law Treaty".

​EQE Training
From 2014-2021, Cees Mulder was a tutor in methodology courses for patent attorney trainees preparing for the European Qualifying Examination (EQE) at Maastricht University.

Cees is co-author of the book Proceedings before the European Patent Office - A Practical Guide to Success in Opposition and Appeal, issued by E. Elgar Publishing (2nd edition, 2020).
